Our History

From A Small Trucking Business To A Regional Landmark.

Founded by James H. Maloy, Sr. in 1918 and incorporated in 1926, the company grew from hauling sand, gravel and coal across Upstate New York into one of the region's most respected heavy civil contractors — with meaningful relationships throughout the industry.

“Just as we were at our founding, J.H. Maloy is committed to providing customers with the highest quality service and work available.”
— James H. Maloy, Inc.
1918

The Founding

James H. Maloy, Sr. establishes the company; incorporated by New York State in 1926. Through the 1930s, Maloy trucks sand, gravel and coal upstate and begins municipal contract work.

1940s

Service & Return

Business pauses while brothers James and John serve in World War II — then resumes as Maloy, Dugan & Maloy with a fellow veteran.

1970s

Regional Landmarks

Saratoga Performing Arts Center, the Slingerlands Bypass, the eastern end of I-88, and expansions of Albany County Airport and Route 9W.

1980s–90s

Environmental & DOT

Landfill construction and cleanup grows the environmental sector; sheeting, piling and foundation work opens the door to DOT contracts — Exit 8A on the Northway, then I-890.

Today

Still Building

Rapid expansion through the 2000s across every sector — with the same commitment to quality, integrity and safety that started it all.

The Maloy Standard

International Paper

I wanted to take a moment and thank everyone for the exceptional effort you and your organizations extended to Amtrak on the Bridge Drainage Improvements project in Schenectady and Albany. I particularly want to point out the remarkable collaboration between the construction manager, the construction contractor (JH Maloy), the city engineer of Schenectady, and the city engineer of Albany. This project could not have been successful without this coordination.
